What happened to Lakewood BlueClaws? ›

The BlueClaws were sold to Shore Town Baseball in July 2017. The new ownership group includes Minor League Baseball veteran and former Mandalay Baseball Properties CEO Art Matin, as well as local investors Bob Tamashunas and Bill Luby. The team rebranded as the Jersey Shore BlueClaws after the 2020 season.

A: The BlueClaws have played as a Single-A team since 2001, meaning there were three levels (High-A, Double-A, and Triple-A) above the BlueClaws in the Phillies system.

JERSEY SHORE, NJ – The Philadelphia Phillies announced today that as part of MLB's new player development structure, the BlueClaws have received an invitation to move up one level and become the Phillies High-A affiliate beginning in 2021.

All told, 287,602 fans came out to BlueClaws games this summer, a 12% increase over 2022. Average game attendance of 4,793 was 524, or 12.2%, higher than last year.

Buster, the BlueClaws mascot, was named the Minor League Baseball's Best Mascot in a fan vote, winning USA Today's 10Best Readers Choice Award. He brought home the gold in a battle that was decided over a four-week voting period. He danced past Chico, the El Paso Chihuahuas' mascot, who took second.

Shore Town Baseball is headed up by Art Martin and local investors Bob Tamashunas and Bill Luby who are both residents of Rumson. Martin was previously the CEO of Mandalay Baseball Properties which during its existence owned and operated nine minor league franchises.

If the schedules line up, it's possible to see the High-A BlueClaws in Lakewood; the Double-A Reading Phillies in Reading, Pa.; the Triple-A Lehigh Valley IronPigs in Allentown, Pa.; and the parent club in Philadelphia in one long weekend.

All weapons are prohibited in accordance with state law. All bags must be smaller than 12" x 16" x 6" to be permitted inside the ballpark.

The ballpark was renamed after Jackie Robinson in 1989, with a statue being added outside the Orange Avenue Gate to celebrate Jackie Robinson breaking the color barrier and playing his first professional game at the ballpark.
