In this post, I’ve covered all the programming steps for a new/existing Reliabilt (RB) Electronic Keypad Deadbolt.

So, if you have just installed a new Reliabilt Electronic Keypad Lock and are not sure how to program it, this post is for you.

If you have an existing Reliabilt Electronic Deadbolt and are looking for ways to remove existing codes and reprogram the lock, this post is also for you.

Now let’s get started.

If you’re a visual learner, see my video on how to program a Reliabilt Electronic Deadbolt:

Restore Factory Default Settings

Whether you have a new or pre-owned RB Electronic Deadbolt, the first programming step I recommend is to reset the lock. This will remove all existing codes (including any hidden code) and restore the factory default codes.

So, you can now program the lock afresh—remove the default codes and add your own code.

Also, if your lock isn’t working properly, resetting it might help fix the problem.

That said, here is how to reset the lock:

  1. Go to the interior assembly of the lock and remove the battery cover—slide the cover up to remove it.
  2. Check below the battery compartment, you’ll see a pinhole labeled R. That’s the reset button.
  3. Get a pin or paperclip and insert inside the pinhole. Then press and hold it until you hear 3 long beeps.
  4. Once you hear 3 long beeps, the reset is complete.

Door Handing Identification Process

After the reset, the next step is to perform the door handing identification process. This helps the lock to learn the orientation of the door (whether it’s a left or right-handed door) for proper functionality.

Note that the lock may not lock/unlock properly if you don’t run the door identification process.

Here’s how to run the door handing identification process:

  1. On the exterior assembly (keypad), enter the default Programming Code—0000 and press the button with the Unlock & Lock icons.
  2. Press 0 and press the button with the Unlock & Lock icons.
  3. The latch bolt will extend the retract to learn the orientation of the door. Once you notice this, the door handing is complete.

Changing the Default/Existing Programming Code

The next programming step is to change the default Programming Code.

The Programming Code is required when you want to change any settings, such as adding/removing User Codes.

The Default Programming Code is 0000, and you want to change this code for security reasons.

Here’s how to change the Programming Code:

  1. Enter the default Programming Code (0000) on the keypad and press the button with the Unlock & Lock icons.
  2. Press 4 and press the button with the Unlock & Lock icons.
  3. Enter a new Programming Code (4-10 digits) and press the button with the Unlock & Lock icons.
  4. You’ll see a green flash and hear two beeps, showing the Programming Code has been changed. Your new Programming Code is now active, and that’s what you’re going to use for other programming.

Note: You can also use this procedure to change your existing Programming Code (apart from the default Programming Code).

Delete the Default User Code

The RB Electronic Keypad Deadbolt comes with a default User Code—1234. This code can be used to unlock your door from the outside, so you need to delete it to ensure security.

Here’s how to delete this code.

  1. Enter your current Programming Code and press the button with the Unlock & Lock icons.
  2. Press 2 and press the button with the Unlock & Lock icons.
  3. Enter the unwanted default User Code (1234) and press the button with the Unlock & Lock icons.
  4. You’ll see a green flash and hear two beeps, meaning the code is deleted.

Note: You can also use this method to delete individual User Codes you’ve added to your lock.

Add New User Codes

Now you need to add a User Code to enable locking and unlocking via the keypad. A User Code can be 4-10 digits long—this code can be used to unlock your door from the outside.

Here’s how to add a new User Code:

  1. Enter your current Programming Code and press the button with the Unlock & Lock icons.
  2. Press 1 and press the button with the Unlock & Lock icons.
  3. Enter a new User Code (4 to 10-digits) and press the button with the Unlock & Lock icons.
  4. The lock will flash green and beep twice, showing the new User Code has been added.

You can repeat the steps to add more User Codes—up to 10.

Deleting All Existing User Codes

Remember, the lock allows you to add up to 10 User Codes, and you can as well delete them all. However, if you remove all User Codes, you can only lock/unlock the lock with the physical key.

So, you’ll need to add new User Codes to be able to lock/unlock the lock electronically (with code).

That said, here’s how to delete all User Codes from this lock at once:

  1. Enter your current Programming Code and press the button with the Unlock & Lock icons.
  2. Press 3 and then press the button with the Unlock & Lock icons.
  3. The lock will flash green and beep twice, showing all existing User Codes have been deleted.

Enabling/Disabling Auto-Lock

The Auto-Lock feature automatically relocks the lock after 30 seconds—by default. You can also set your preferred time you want the lock to automatically relock.

Here’s how to enable auto-lock:

  1. Enter your current Programming Code and press the button with the Unlock & Lock icons.
  2. Press 5 and press the button with the Unlock & Lock icons.
  3. You’ll see a green flash and hear two beeps, meaning the auto-lock feature is enabled.

As mentioned earlier, the lock will automatically relock after 30 seconds. This is the default time, and you can set your preferred delay time.

Follow these steps to set your preferred delay time:

  1. Enter your Programming Code and press the button with the Unlock & Lock icons.
  2. Press 6 and then press the button with the Unlock & Lock icons.
  3. Enter your preferred delay time (between 10-99 seconds) and press the button with the Unlock & Lock button icons.
